When I Dream I Hear Your Voice

kathy 4'

When I dream, I hear your voice.

The sweet song that will be snatched away by the light of day and eyes awake.

You tell me stories of your life, a life that I have never known and will never know outside of eyes closed.

You sing tenderly to me as we walk hand in hand.

Your body moves like velvet falling over a keyboard. Smooth. Gentle. Quiet.

You point to fascinations and exclaim delight.

All the words that you require are no longer lost. You are no longer lost.

You are freed. We are freed.

There are no shackles, no barriers to break.

There is just you and me, the beauty of speech and the wonder of soft movement.

You overflow with gumption. You burst with joy.

Every thought tumbles from your lips. Questions no longer hang above us.

The shadowy parts of our existence are overcome by sunlight. There are vibrant flowers painting the ground around us and you can name them all.

You know so much more than I could ever imagine.

You visit with angels at dawn. You charm them with your wit and inspire them with your innocence.

And much too soon, we are lead back to the quiet stillness, before awareness rises and my body recognizes day.

How sweet the sound of your whisper as I kiss you goodnight, not knowing when I will hear the rhythm of your sentences again.

Until we meet in dreamland again my sweet child, my heart will listen for your words unspoken.
