Look for the Magic

So often the most impactful parts of life don’t make sense. I’ve learned that over and over again. Sometimes gracefully. Sometimes not.

But see I have this teacher. This little human. He’s taught me more than I can even put into words.

He likes colors and squares and rectangles and lines. He likes trains and Peppa and pictures of his brothers and penguins and letters. And the number 35. It used to be 33. And The Price is Right.

And he doesn’t care what anyone thinks about it. Because those things make him happy. They bring him joy. And sometimes, if you are lucky, he will share them with you.

I’ve learned to look for the magic in everything. That nugget of joy amidst the struggle.

That split second of humor amidst the sadness.

That moment of peace and clarity amidst the chaos.

The importance of a glance, a wave, a sound. And the importance of a good line.

There may be no words. Or thank yous. Or normalities. But what you have matters too. Don’t ever forget that.

And remember it doesn’t have to always make sense to you. Most often it won’t.

It’ll feel messy and loud and different.

But try and embrace it.

If I could go back in time and tell my younger self one thing…it would be to embrace it. Take it all in.

Do everything you can to be a part of it too.

Don’t miss one second. Because before you know it they will be 9. And 15. And 30.

Enter their secret world when you can. Sit. Listen. Watch. Learn.

Because these are the moments. The ones that matter.

Sometimes the magic is in the parts that no one else can understand.
