Mama, I Give You Permission to Rest

kate 3

I give you permission to rest mama. To set down what you are carrying.

I can see the weight of it all. You carry it so well.

People call you inspiring. They speak of you as an inspiration. Someone to aspire too.

But the weight is no lighter for you than for anyone else.

I know that. And so often, the world overlooks and forgets to see the ones who carry the weight well.

You are tired mama.

So, put it down. I give you permission.

Take the day. The night. The week even.

Cancel therapies. Pause in-home services. Put the goals on the back burner and the endless lists of what needs to be done.

They will wait for you.

Rest. Pause.

Enjoy this beautiful child and this is beautiful life.

Stop chasing the ‘I’ll be happy when.’

Being nonstop busy is the hearts way of avoiding feeling. It will catch up with you.

So, pause. Stand still and let the world go on without you for a bit.

Cry. Reflect. Feel all of it.

Look at how far you’ve come. You are living mama. You are doing it.

Eat good food.
Play.
Watch a movie.
Go for a walk.
Have a day. A night.

Don’t think about what’s next either. Just live.

And give no thought to the weight of doing it all.

Because it will be waiting for you when you are ready to pick it back up again.

Today, right now, I give you permission to rest.

And just be mom. And let your child just be a child.

Enjoy this moment mama.
