Little Brothers

harbie 6

Here’s the thing about little brothers…

They are stinky and loud and messy and can be SO annoying…

And they also have this way of inserting themselves into everything.

They don’t care about boundaries or social norms.

They don’t care if you talk or use a speech device.

They don’t care what you are into or what’s cool.

They just care that they can climb on you and steal your iPad and watch trains with you.

They love to be chased and to ask for an extra treat so they can bring you one.

They ask where you are and wander the house to find you.

They look at you like you are the coolest thing since sliced bread.

They love to wrestle and steal your things and drive you completely batty.

And hug your neck.

If you could talk Cooper, I think you’d tell us he isn’t all bad. Especially when he gasps at your trains. And rests his head on your shoulder.

You don’t like to be touched all that much. But it’s okay when this little one does.

There is something special about him. He draws the love out. Forces it even.

I know he will be a fierce advocate. And for that I am thankful.

Finding Cooper’s Voice is a safe, humorous, caring and honest place where you can celebrate the unique challenges of parenting a special needs child. Because you’re never alone in the struggles you face. And once you find your people, your allies, your village….all the challenges and struggles will seem just a little bit easier. Her first book, Forever Boy, will be released, April 5, 2022.
