Little Adventures

swensons 2

We just went on our first outing as a family of six. We actually planned to go on Friday. And then Saturday. And finally we made it today.

It took us well over an hour to get out of the house. There were babies to nurse and diapers to change. Kids to dress. Snacks. Negotiations. Teeth to brush. Missing shoes. Someone wasn’t wearing shorts at one point.

But we did it! A nice hike in the woods. We saw turtles and ducks and got outside in the fresh air where life feels so much simpler and easier.

That is until baby Wynnie pooped through her clothes all over me. I won’t hold it against her though. It wasn’t the first time I got poop on me today.

I’ll tell ya, I’m always forcing my kids to go on these little adventures. Always in the woods. Hikes. Trails. Water. Nature. It’s my favorite. I adore being outside. I feel whole. Like myself.

And Sawyer always complains.

He tells me how boring I am and how other families do fun things. And every time, he enjoys himself the most out of everyone. Makes me smile.

Because I know he will remember these hikes. Just like I remember driving to South Dakota with my dad and thinking it was pure torture. So boring. I would give anything to have that time back.

Now three out of our four are napping. Also a bonus.
