Three Things I’ve Learned About Raising Boys

Things I’ve learned as a mom to my three boys…

It’s nearly impossible to keep them clean. But messes typically equal fun so it’s important to remember you can hose them off later.

They love to pee in the woods. There is just something about it.

Trees are made for climbing. Little trees. Big trees. Trees with no branches. All trees must climbed. But also know they most likely will not ACTUALLY climb any trees. Just attempt.

All found sticks must be thrown, no matter the size. Sticks also make good swords. And clubs.

When walking, a straight line does not make sense. Instead it’s more of a zigzag of sorts. And backwards. And so much running.

They have so much energy. It is almost unbelievable. They will seem to steal it from you relentlessly.

Jackets only stay on for so long…even when it’s 41 degrees out.

Animal poop will be found. And someone will touch it. Every time.

Little ones think the bigger ones are the best. They will repeat and mimic everything. Which is why this little ones favorite word is buttcheek. Fun.

Mud will be found. Water will be found. Shoes will get dirty. Knees will get skinned. Pants only last for so long.

They will get hurt. It never fails. They will show you said injury and you may or may not see it but you must make a big deal about it.

They will do unsafe things. And it will often feel like your purpose on this earth is to keep them from doing stupid things…like not scaling a steep hill or tightrope walking a ledge.

But they are so cute.

I often get exasperated and love them even more in the same sixty second period. Which makes no sense.

Boys. They are pretty great.

And lastly, take them outside and run them. It’s the best advice I can give.
