I am Thankful for the Most Amazing Uncle

My name is Corie and I am thankful for the most amazing uncle.

I am the mom of two boys with one on the spectrum.

My little guy was diagnosed “non verbal” and “low functioning” at the age of three.

His name is Dante. He is now 12 and boy is he a firecracker.

I would like to give a shout out so to speak to his Uncle Shane…AKA “Uncie”.

A quick background on this “Uncie” character.

Uncie is my oldest son’s father. So strange sounding but bare with me.

Though not compatible in a relationship setting, we are great friends and he is a great dad to our 22 year old son and wonderful “uncie” to my Dante.

When Dante was born he was right there with my husband, myself, my oldest and family, though he did not have to be.

He than took on the roll as Uncie right off the bat.

He, his wife and their family have included him and never made him feel less than.

Dante has no friends, was pulled from school already this year because it has proven to be too much for him.

It has been a nightmare for all of us.

Uncie will call and check on Dante every day, even if just for a quick minute, to see how his little day is going.

We do not participate in respite because honestly this mom is terrified to send him off with a stranger. I worry he can not tell us if something was to happen.

So, once again, Uncie is our respite.

He takes him hiking, swimming, includes him in family outings with his wife, stepson, and other nephews.

This guy has saved us from losing our minds countless times, and his mini loves him to pieces!

The bond they have is amazing.

Two peas in a pod when together.

He stays patient with Dante when times get a little crazy, and we know we can trust him and can relax when they are on an adventure and not be worried which is a nice break every now and again.

Though this dynamic may be odd to others it works for our family, and we are lucky to have him.

So, Uncie, huge shout out to you for being the super “uncie” you are, and all the love you give mini.
