A Magical World

I often say we live in a magical world. My son and I.

A world where we communicate with our hearts instead of our mouths.

A world full of color and trains.

Sometimes it’s upside down, backwards, even inside out in our world.

Some days we move forward. Some days we stand still.

We celebrate the craziest, oddest things. Things that everyone else takes for granted.

Some days I swear we are the lucky ones. Some days I pray for it to get easier. I pray for simple. I pray for strength.

But most days, like today, I swear I’ve hit the jackpot.

We buzz like bumblebees, we make a nest on the floor of my office with blankets and pictures of his brothers.

We talk about Christmas lights. We practice dancing. And saying the word Sawyer.

We even perfect the double down low high five.

Then, while I was working, my shadow found a hat in my office. He put it on his head. He tapped my shoulder to show me. He twirled and danced and laughed. He even smiled for a photo.

In our world, everything I just shared is a learned skill. Something we practiced.

Something that was a goal a one time. Something this mama accepted may never happen.

Wearing a hat. Pretending. Showing. Tolerating. Smiling.

Look at this kid. A magical boy in a magical world.

To think, this world used to scare me. I tried to run from it. I tried to hide from it.

Not anymore.
