Sometimes You Need a Change

So…we quit.

Specifically, we quit homeschool.

Quitting can make us feel like a failure.

Quit a job?

Failure.

Quit breastfeeding?

Failure.

Quit a diet?

Failure.

With COVID and all the decisions we had to make, we chose homeschool for our oldest (neurotypical) son.

We talked about it.

Prayed about it.

Planned.

Bought a full homeschool curriculum.

Planned some more.

Bought supplemental programs.

Made schedules.

Set up a “school” room in our house.

Coordinated our lives to make it work.

We tried and tried…until we realized that it just wasn’t working.

I thought if we tried hard enough, it would all work out…but turns out, it wasn’t what our son needed.

What I WANTED and what he NEEDS are two different things. As I’m learning in this life, it is okay to make changes and go down an alternate (unplanned) path. Sometimes, it’s just necessary (and better in the long run).

Going with the flow and admitting that we need a change – I’d like to think I’m getting better at these things.

Life is too short to keep spinning your wheels.

Unhappy?

Something not working out?

Then change course – there is nothing wrong with that.

In-person school, here he comes.
